Here is one of my favourite examples of why it's so important to "wash" your genes

One of my favourite genetic tests to work with is called DNA Health.

It provides me and the patient so much opportunity to understand the body: Why they feel the way they do, why they are susceptible to the things they are, and why their body is so different to the bodies of friends and family.

I almost always test for SNP’s (single nucleotide polymorphisms) and one that I pay careful attention to is the APO E gene. This is a genetic variation that is associated with early onset dementia or Alzheimer’s disease (the variation I am discussing is APO E4, the safer variations are APO E3 or E2). It is also a gene variation that increases cardiovascular disease by as much as 40-50%.

Additionally we know that E4 variations are hyper-responsive to toxins such as alcohol and smoking, as well as total fat in the diet.

Just by looking at this one gene we can work to prevent so much.

Remember, these are genes that you can work towards switching on and off, provided you provide the appropriate environment. Think diet, exercise, lifestyle, toxin exposure, supplementation, and stress management.

As a doctor, I don’t like surprises. I like to prevent diseases before their onset, or work with the biology to treat diseases already set in.

The above is just one example of this. This is the power of prevention using the body’s own intelligence. DNA Analysis is a step that I would recommend.
